Our Accommodation close to Napier
There are four bedrooms in our lodge, each with its own theme and very tastefully decorated. There is the quirky 1960s-70s Retro Room, the romantic Pacific Room, the comfortable and contemporary King Room and lastly the rich steel and leather ambience of the Queen Room. Each room comfortably sleeps two guests. All have large double beds, en suite showers, an iPod dock and free WIFI. To get you started every morning we provide a home-cooked continental breakfast, included in the price.
We also have our quiet and peaceful country cottage, Te Whare. This sleeps three guests and has a very homely atmosphere, much more enjoyable than any luxury hotel. Napier city is not far away and is a gorgeous and famous original Art Deco heritage city.
The centre was rebuilt after the massive 1931 earthquake measuring a frightening 7.9 on the Richter scale. Over two hundred and fifty people died and the centre of Napier was almost completely destroyed, either by the quake itself or by the resulting fires. Local architect and follower of Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Hay, then set about the reconstruction which has survived until today and which gives Napier its unique character.
Every February the city has its popular Tremains Art Deco Weekend a stylish event which includes vintage cars, fashion and music. Also attracting many visitors is the Food and Wine Classic event at Mission Estate and Winery and the Mission Estate Concert, a wonderful outdoor celebration of music and art.
Other popular attractions include the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers and, of course, the famous vineyards offering Pinot Gris and Syrah wines. The Napier farmers’ market takes place every Saturday and is great for artisan foods and super fresh produce.
